Hair loss in both women and men in Kenya is a real course of concern and the prevalence of the problem in East Africa is well documented.
Herman, who, among other experts recently participated in designing a pharmaceutical brand for combating Female Pattern Hair Loss disclosed that the anomaly is attributed to a large number of causes among them Smoking, Excessive use of hair relaxing chemicals, physical pulling of hair during braiding, use of birth control pills, Menopause, Follicular infections, alcohol and a rare genetical and auto immune condition-in which a person’s own immune attacks the hair follicles . He however, reassured that permanent cure for this condition is available in Kenya at affordable price. He also gave tips on how to recognise hair loss in early stages and how to prevent it.
“Receding hairline or thinning of hair on the temporal sides of the scalp is an earlier indicator, but also noticing some hair on the comb or floor after combing should raise the red flag….” He added.
Hair loss in both sexes lowers self esteem and the affected people gamble with anything that may promise to restore the hair. This leads to bad choices and misuse of hair restoration medications.
Hegrow, an all-new high efficacy drug by East Africa Bio-Laboratories combines natural extracts with conventional agents to restore and promote growth of hair. The main active ingredients include Minoxidil, Ricinoleic acid (derived from Castor seeds), Vitamin C among other proprietary ingredients that are kept as top secret by the manufacturer.
Herman, who is a keen researcher took us through some ingredients found in Hegrow; and quoting The Journal of Ethnopharmacology, says that ricinoleic acid inhibits a compound associated with hair loss – prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). As of Minoxidil, he says that the agent works by widening blood vessels and opening potassium channels, allowing more oxygen, blood, and nutrients to the follicles. This causes follicles in the telogen phase to shed, which are then replaced by thicker hairs in a new anagen phase…”. He however warns that minoxidil use is indicated for central (vertex) hairloss only. He noted that Vitamin C helps build collagen, which is highly important for hairgrowth, but maintaining the strength of hair is just as crucial,” Herman adds. “Vitamin C also plays a necessary role in absorbing iron, which keeps our locks strong and healthy.”
Another researcher (name with held for legal purposes) said that Molasin-D , an active phytochemical derived from molasses contains zinc, manganese, selenium and other trace minerals that help in stimulating Follicular cells to grow new hair
